All systems are go
Just a quick note to say that all has gone very well moving the ScorgIT Magento Store. All systems are go!
The next move: webshop.scorgit.com
And the story continues….
After the successful move of the ScorgIT Demo Store, next up in line is the Magento Live Store at webshop.scorgit.com.
At this very moment, http://webshop.scorgit.com is waiting for its DNS-change.
You might thus experience some problems reaching the new location of the ScorgIT web shop. If so, please return at a later time. Again, if you experience some problems, we apologize for any inconvenience!
Move of demo.scorgit.com successful
As stated in our previous post, ScorgIT has been in the process of moving its demo site at http://demo.scorgit.com over to a new hosting party, Skyberate in The Netherlands.
We are glad to say that things have worked out very well! Also, we have taken the opportunity to elaborate a bit on how the various ScorgIT Magento extensions work, so right now you will find a short manual on the demo site on how to use these modules. Go test them out for yourself and see why, for example, the Shipping Distance Calculator, might be the perfect choice for your store or client!
If you see any irregularities on the new demo site, feel free to drop us a line!
And yes…. Skyberate also has an affiliate program. So if you’re interested in Magento hosting at a reasonable price and want to order, please click here.
Move of demo.scorgit.com
To better suit your needs, the demo server of ScorgIT will be moved over to another dedicated hosting party, in the Netherlands. ScorgIT has chosen Skyberate (www.skyberate.nl) for this purpose. Fast, dedicated and shared hosting, on fast and reliable servers.
As a result of this, the ScorgIT Magento demo site on http://demo.scorgit.com might be temporarily unreachable for you. If you experience DNS resolving problems, please retry at a later time.
We’re sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you, but we’re sure we will be able to give you an even better demo experience!
Stay tuned for updates!
ScorgIT Magento modules compatible with Magento CE 1.6.2.0
Just a quick note for all you Magento users, who wish to upgrade Magento and have a ScorgIT module, or are on the verge of buying a Magento extension on the ScorgIT webshop for the latest stable Magento CE version: all ScorgIT Magento plugins (modules, extensions, widgets) are fully compatible with the latest stable Community Edition of Magento, 1.6.2.0!
Magento Extension Customer Logout Redirection
A couple of months ago, I had a question of someone who wanted his clients to be redirected to another page than the Home Page of his Magento web shop, once the customer logged out. Although that is not very hard to achieve, ‘just’ change the redirect in the javascript in app/design/frontend/base/default/template/customer/logout.phtml, and you’re all set. Perhaps alter the text inside that file, “You have logged out and will be redirected to our homepage in 5 seconds.” and you as a developer has a satisfied client. So that’s one option.
The other option is to have your client do it himself, or herself. And that’s the better option! It’s almost to harsh to be true to leave valued web shop customers with a tiny text, pointing them to the door. You should, and hopefully you can persuade those very customers to return instantly, or at least leave them with a message that will show them you were very happy to have them as a most valued customer in your web shop.
Now with the ScorgIT Customer Logout Redirection Magento Extension, this has become extremely easy!
With the ScorgIT Customer Logout Redirection Magento Extension, you can easily select the Magento CMS Page you want your customers to be redirected to. And on that CMS Page, you’re not bound to just enter some text, but that very page can also contain some last minute offers or products targeted to your logged out customers, nicely presented in that smashing layout you want, or a category list view. Who knows, your logged out customer might just re-login and buy just that other product. Wouldn’t that be good for your business?
So why wait? Go check out this nifty little extension on the ScorgIT Magento demo shop (both back-end and front-end, but of course to be able to see it in action on the front-end you should register and logout), or go directly to the ScorgIT Web shop. You might see some other extensions worth looking at too!
New version of the Magento Shipping Extension Distance Calculator Plus
So….. it has been a long, very long time since I wrote my last post. Yes, I won the MagentoU course, and Yes, I did attend it of course!
Since then, things have been busy. Very busy. ScorgIT has since then been building some interesting custom modules / extensions for new clients, adapted a lot of Magento code to be able to get other customers the webshop they specifically wanted, and in the meantime, developed some new modules of which I think they should have been around for some time longer. But more on that later.
Apart from that, the ScorgIT Magento Shipping Extension Distance Calculator Plus has had an update. From now on, the new version follows Magento standards even better. Especially layout updates are better incorporated. What’s more, there are two new features added to the Plus version:
- an info window showing the client’s address
- the possibility to show the actual route Google has calculated on the Google Map
Go check it out at the ScorgIT demo store, or buy the new version directly from the ScorgIT webshop.
Of course and as always: if you have any questions or specific needs for customizations, do not hesitate to contact ScorgIT!
And the winner is….
Yesterday, at the Meet Magento 2011 event in Ede, The Netherlands (Twitter #MM11NL), I’ve been the lucky winner of an official Magento U Class training, worth a splashing $ 3850! Can’t say i regret my trip to my native country
Well, what else can I say? I’m happy to have attended the event obviously, been meeting some interesting people, sessions were great, informative, and I gained some specific knowledge on how to do the Magento job even better!
A big thank you to all at Magento for my prize, and of course to the organization of the event!

Magento associated products not showing up
Ok, banging my head (again) on this issue… So to reassure myself I do not forget it, ever, I will write it down. Maybe it’ll help someone else too!
Magento version: 1.5.1.0 (and maybe others too)
The symptoms:
1. You create a configurable product, based on an attribute set you created, with at least one attribute suitable for a configurable product (you can find a lot on creating that part elsewhere)
2. During the creation of the configurable product, you go to the tab ‘Associated products’
3. Create some simple products via the ‘Quick simple product creation’, supplying the data for your configurable attribute
4. Save the product
5. Problem: There are no associated products once you view the configurable product or no products show up when you search for them on the ‘Associated products’ tab
Cause:
The created simple products appear to have the configurable option well configured, but in fact, they do not!
Proof:
Check each of the individual simple products you’ve created via Manage Products, try to save, and Magento will tell you not all obligatory options have been set.
Solution:
1. Check each of the individual simple products you’ve created via Manage Products, go the tab for your Atrribute Set, select the attribute option and set the price accordingly, save the product.
2. Once every simple product has been saved, go to your configurable product, and open up the tab ‘Associated products’
3. Press the ‘Reset Filter’ button or perform a search for your simple products
4. Check the boxes before each simple product you want your configurable product to have associations with
That should do the trick! (I admit: screen shots would be nice in this post, but I’m kind of short of time right now).
And always remember: clear your cache, and refresh you indexes.
ScorgIT Magento modules compatible with Magento 1.5.1.0
We have checked the ScorgIT Magento modules against the latest Magento Community Edition 1.5.1.0, and are very happy to announce that all modules are fully compatible with this version!
Besides that, we have made a slight change to the Distance Calculator (both kilometer and miles versions) to be compatible with the Distance Calculator Plus version. In case you would like to have them running side by side, it should not be any problem as of now!
